German Gomez is a Director in the Employment Law and Insurance Coverage practice groups.
As a member of the Employment Law Practice Group, German counsels clients regarding claims involving employment and labor laws, including discrimination, harassment, ADA, ADEA, FMLA and FLSA related matters. German also represents clients responding to administrative agency charges and in employment litigation matters pending before the EEOC as well as state and local fair employment practice agencies. Finally, German assists clients in preparing employee handbooks and personnel procedures manuals to ensure compliance with currently applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Prior to joining the firm, German worked at the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) where he represented the SBA in employment and labor law litigation, including matters involving discrimination, harassment, ADA, ADEA, FMLA and FLSA related claims, before the EEOC, FLRA and federal courts throughout the United States.
As a member of the Insurance Coverage Group, German provides insurance clients with coverage analysis and recommendations regarding third-party liability claims noticed by insureds under various primary, umbrella and excess general liability policies. German also has comprehensive experience analyzing first-party property coverage issues arising under various forms of property and business interruption insurance, including “all risks,” fire, named peril, environmental, builder’s risk and boiler & machinery form policies. Moreover, German has extensive experience representing insurance clients in coverage litigation, as well as subrogation actions, venued in state and federal courts throughout the United States and before various international arbitration associations.
Prior to joining the SBA, German spent 10 years in New York City as a litigator representing insurance clients in complex insurance coverage and defense litigation matters, including claims for property, environmental, toxic tort, products, employment and professional liability, in state and federal courts throughout the United States and in international arbitration proceedings in Europe and Latin America.
German is a 2008 graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s (“NITA”) “Trial Skills Seminar.” Founded in 1971, NITA is recognized as the premier trial advocacy training institute for practicing attorneys. Thomas S. Jackson, a founding partner of J&C, was one of NITA’s thirteen founding trustees.
German was recently admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of the Supreme Court of England & Wales after having passed the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) as required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority of England and Wales. He now has full rights to practice as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
German received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in 1990 and his law degree from the Fordham University School of Law in 1993. While in law school, he participated in the Wormser Moot Court Competition and served as a Member of the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal.
