Jay McDannell is a member of Jackson & Campbell’s General Litigation and Real Property & Asset Management Practice Groups. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation.

Jay represents both corporations and individuals in mediations, arbitrations, trials and appeals. His cases have included class actions, bankruptcy matters and civil matters in state and federal courts throughout the country. Jay also represents both individual and corporations facing government investigation. His recent cases have involved commercial contract disputes, fraud allegations, construction defect claims, and breaches of professional duty (particularly Architects and Engineers Professional Liability). He also has significant experience in energy-related disputes, constitutional claims, government contracting issues, franchiser/franchisee relationships, insurance, financial services, intellectual property licensing, construction and land-use disputes. Jay frequently handles complex economic and technical matters and is experienced at both establishing and challenging the qualifications and conclusions of expert witnesses.

Before joining Jackson & Campbell, Jay was an associate in the litigation group of a Washington, D.C. firm where he founded a college access and opportunity program for students from Bell Multicultural High School (located in the District). He has received multiple Public Service Awards for his dedication to this area, including recognition by the Washington Lawyers’ Committee on Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.

Jay’s representative matters include:

• Defending contractual and construction defect claims against a national A&E firm related to the construction of a nuclear facility.
• Defending constitutional and contract claims regarding the implementation of land use policy for a state government subdivision.
• Representing a utility company in a dispute regarding the valuation of a long-term contract and related power plant.
• Pursuing allegations of fraud for a local company against a national manufacturer related to efforts to sell products to government agencies.

He is the co-author of “Computer Crime” in the 1999 White Collar Crime Project as published in the American Criminal Law Review.

Jay received his B.A. from Tulane University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia. He is a member of the American Bar Association.
