Laura is a Director in Jackson & Campbell’s General Litigation and Business Law practice groups. She has a strong and diverse background in litigation, corporate counseling, and arts, entertainment and sports law.
Laura’s specialized litigation strategy and corporate counseling practices work hand in hand, managing and minimizing risk while maximizing business opportunity. She is an experienced litigator, having tried jury and bench trials to conclusion in state and federal courts. Her corporate counseling practice focuses on problem-solving, risk management and control, and providing creative solutions for venture creation and capitalization. She also advises about corporate governance, control, and continuity; and challenges encountered in business growth. She drafts and negotiates contracts, licensing agreements, and other intellectual property agreements, and provides trademark counsel.
Before joining Jackson & Campbell, Laura was the principal of her own law firm where she counseled and litigated on behalf of local, national and international companies. She counseled emerging companies in developing solutions for challenges encountered in business growth, particularly in venture creation and financing, corporate governance, and control and continuity.
Presently, Laura’s clients include IT/PIV solutions companies, government contractors, emerging companies in the retail and wholesale sectors, independent film and television production companies, record labels, and recording artists, among similar others.
An active member of the community, Laura is involved with multiple non-profit tax-exempt organizations, primarily serving the youth and arts communities. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington Area Music Association and on the National Board of Directors of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc. Laura also serves as Director of the Law and Justice Clinic of the National Youth Sports Program at the University of the District of Columbia. In addition, she serves as Counsel to Youth Visions, Inc., a non-profit international youth leadership program dedicated to providing youth the opportunity and the means to travel abroad and to acquire valuable experience in academics, the arts, and athletics. She is also Counsel to The Bob Hayes Foundation, Inc., dedicated to preserving the legacy of “The World’s Fastest Human,” “Bullet” Bob Hayes, the only person ever to win an Olympic gold medal and NFL Super Bowl Championship.
Laura frequently speaks on legal issues related to venture formation, organization, financing, and risk management. She is also a frequent lecturer at entertainment industry and business seminars.
Laura earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
