Recognized by Washingtonian magazine as one of the leading hospital and professional liability defense attorneys in the Washington region, Mr. McConnell has over 45 years of courtroom experience, including retention as counsel for the area’s major hospitals and health care systems to defend complex, high exposure cases. He has served as lead defense counsel in hundreds of cases involving claims for professional malpractice, products and premises liability, libel and defamation, antitrust and restraint of trade, employment discrimination, education disciplinary proceedings and breach of contract claims, and general contract and commercial matters.
Nick is a former President, former member of the Firm’s Executive Committee, and former Chair of the Health Law Practice Group. He is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers with a substantial number of significant cases tried to jury verdict. Nick has long held an AV® Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, the highest awarded through a rigorous peer review process, for both competence and ethics. He was selected as a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine (2006-present). He has served as President of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (the oldest bar association in our nation’s capital), the Bar Association’s Foundation, The Barristers, and The Counsellors. Designated by the D.C. Defense Lawyers Association as The Lawyer of the Year (2005), Nick is also a member of the Defense Research Institute, is a frequent faculty member and lecturer at trial advocacy programs and programs on professional ethics, and serves as President/CEO of The Tucker Foundation, a private foundation focusing its resources on funding for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research in partnership with health care institutions throughout the Metropolitan Region.
